A poetic and musical tribute to eighteenth-century French music, Le Tombeau de Couperin bears witness to the neo-classical movement of the inter-war period. Maurice Ravel completed the work in 1917, after serving in the army during the First World War and still grieving the death of his mother in January of that year. The work is constructed in six pieces, like a suite of dances, each associated with a friend of the composer who died at the front. François-Xavier Poizat approaches this emblematic work of the French repertoire with immense clarity and sharp playing!

Hommage poétique et musical à la musique française du XVIIIe siècle, Le Tombeau de Couperin témoigne du mouvement néo-classique de l’entre-deux guerres. Maurice Ravel achève son œuvre en 1917, après avoir servi sous les drapeaux durant la grande guerre, et encore bouleversé par le décès de sa mère survenu en janvier de la même année. L’œuvre est construite en six pièces, à la manière d’une suite de danses, chacune étant associée à un ami du compositeur tombé au front. C’est avec une immense clarté et un jeu aiguisé que François-Xavier Poizat aborde cette œuvre emblématique du répertoire français !
